NMP alternative


The classification of N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) as "toxicologically questionable" is currently being discussed by the European Union's Commission. BASF has been on top of the issue almost from the start and began to search for a replacement. In recent years NMP gained substantial acceptance as a multi-faceted solvent in various industrial sectors.  more
NEW TECHNOLOGY

ChiPros® - New process developed


The Indol plant has made its first batch of
(R)-(3-chlorophenyl)oxirane oxide, a chiral intermediate. The Operating Division Intermediates developed a new biotechnological process for the purpose and as a result expanded its technology platform.

Cooperation agreement with Solvias


The Operating Division Intermediates of BASF has signed a cooperation agreement with Solvias AG, Basel, Switzerland. Solvias is a leading global player in the development and marketing of asymmetric hydrogenation technologies and has one of the world's largest ligand libraries.  more

A reborn Intermediate


Actually, the intermediate 2-methoxy-
ethylamine (2-MEA) was to be phased out of production within BASF altogether. Heretofore it had been used mostly in the production of textile dyestuffs. But now it has emerged as an important component for a pharmaceutical product.

The Operating Division's exhibition at this year's ChemSpec Fair in Duesseldorf drew considerable interest with a stand designed to appeal to various industries. The displays featured innovations for the pharmaceutical, crop protection and plastic industries as well as coatings, electronic chemicals and mechanical engineering.  more

Dr. Karin Sperling, head of New Business Development since March 1, 2004, earned a doctorate in chemistry and has been with BASF since 1984. Initially she worked in research, ten years thereafter in application technology and development of cosmetic raw material products, before she switched to marketing.  more

KORESIN®

Smoother handling in more ways than one


It is now possible for customers of the Operating Division Intermediates to have Koresin® phenolic resin orders shipped either on wooden or plastic palettes. The use of the new type of platforms made with recycled plastic contributes to the improvement of the intermediate. Moreover the plastic version weighs about 1.7 kilograms less than its wooden counterpart.  more
