Using cesium and potassium formates in completion fluids that stabilize boreholes in gas production is more eco-efficient than the application of brines based on zinc bromide, calcium bromide and calcium chloride. This is the result of an eco-efficiency analysis performed by BASF. Formates are salts of formic acid, a BASF intermediate.

BASF and Linde-KCA-Dresden GmbH (LKCA), a Linde Group subsidiary, will jointly market licenses and plants for the capture of carbon dioxide (CO2) from flue gases in the future. The companies today, (date), signed the cooperation agreement.

After a two-year construction phase, BASF today (November 30, 2009) started up a new plant complex for the production of the chemical intermediates cyclopentanone (CPon) and cyclododecanone (CDon) at its Ludwigshafen Verbund site. Kurt Beck, the prime minister of the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, attended the inauguration ceremony.

BASF will present its extensive polyurea portfolio at the annual conference of the Polyurea Development Association Europe (PDA Europe), the European trade association of the polyurea industry. From November 16 through 18, the industry event in Brühl near Cologne, Germany, will provide established polyurea technology users as well as novices with information about products, applications and new developments.

Thursday, October 22, 2009. BASF Antwerpen N.V. today announced its intention to close its 115,000 annual tons maleic anhydride (MA) production facility by the end of 2009 and to withdraw all BASF activities from its site in Feluy, Belgium.

BASF has expanded its application lab for epoxy resin systems at the Ludwigshafen site in which the company develops new systems and adapts their processing parameters to the specific processes of its customers. BASF markets the systems – which are used in particular for the production of high-performance wind turbine rotor blades made from fiber-reinforced composites – under the brand name Baxxodur®.
