Fifty years of propionic acid manufacturing at BASF

A rather acidic success story started at BASF 50 years ago: in 1960, the company brought on stream the first large-scale manufacturing plant for propionic acid at its integrated Ludwigshafen Verbund site.The inauguration of another facility that produces this carboxylic acid followed at the Nanjing site in China in 2005. Having expanded the annual capacity at these sites in 2009, which brought its total annual capacity to 149,000 metric tons, BASF is now one of the world’s major propionic acid manufacturers

BASF experts at “Husum WindEnergy” 2010


For the first time, BASF will showcase its current portfolio for manufacturers of wind energy plants at the “Husum WindEnergy” trade show. The offering includes products and solutions that allow efficient production and coating of rotor blades, towers and foundations. BASF experts will give brief presentations at the congress center on September 23, from 2:00 PM through 3:00 PM, to introduce their ranges.

New CO2 Capture Technology from Natural Gas JGC, INPEX and BASF to Perform Demonstration Tests


Yokohama, Japan – JGC, INPEX and BASF announced today that they have entered into an agreement to jointly carry out demonstration tests on a new technology for effectively capturing and recovering CO2 contained in natural gas. The tests are carried out at INPEX’s Koshijihara natural gas plant (Nagaoka city, Niigata prefecture) starting August 2010.

BASF raises prices for isophorone diamine in Europe


BASF is raising its prices for isophorone diamine (IPDA) in Europe by €200 per metric ton, or by the corresponding amount in local currency, effective immediately or as existing contracts permit.

Better eco-efficiency of formates in gas drilling


Using cesium and potassium formates in completion fluids that stabilize boreholes in gas production is more eco-efficient than the application of brines based on zinc bromide, calcium bromide and calcium chloride. This is the result of an eco-efficiency analysis performed by BASF. Formates are salts of formic acid, a BASF intermediate.

BASF and Linde cooperate: Flue gas carbon dioxide capture


BASF and Linde-KCA-Dresden GmbH (LKCA), a Linde Group subsidiary, will jointly market licenses and plants for the capture of carbon dioxide (CO2) from flue gases in the future. The companies today, (date), signed the cooperation agreement.
