Risk (R) and Safety (S) phrases characterise hazardous chemical substances or formulations. R-phrases give a hint of harmful features. S-phrases describe the safe handling of hazardous substances.

Risk Phrases Glyoxal Glutaraldehyde Formaldehyde
R20 Harmful by inhalation.
R23 Toxic by inhalation.
R24 Toxic in contact with skin.
R25 Toxic if swallowed.
R34 Causes burns.
R36 Irritating to eyes.
R38 Irritating to skin.
R42 May cause sensitization by inhalation.
R43 May cause sensitization by skin contact.
R68 Possible risk of irreversible effects. (Mutagen Category 3)
R40 Limited evidence of a carcinogenic effect. (Carcinogen Category 3)
R50 Very toxic to aquatic organisms.

S2 Keep out of reach of children.
S26 In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice.
S36 Wear suitable protective clothing.
