UNIQUELY LOW WATER CONTENT NOT EXCEEDING 0.01%
Anhydrous THF: Ideal for use in water-sensitive reactions

Highest purity for pharmaceuticals manufacture
BASF is the world’s only supplier of high-purity tetrahydrofuran (THF) with an extremely low residual water content of not more than 0.01 percent. The high purity of the intermediate used as a solvent is important for pharmaceuticals manufacture, because the purer the starting materials, the lower the risk of unwanted side effects. Anhydrous THF is ideal for use in tricky water-sensitive reactions such as commonly occur in the manufacture of active pharmaceutical ingredients. Manufacture is based on metal-organic compounds that would disintegrate upon contact with water, an example being Grignard reagents.
BASF has more than 50 years of experience in the manufacture of THF, which belongs to the class of cyclic ethers. Continuous improvement of the production process allows the company to offer highly purified THF today. BASF produces THF at a globally unique network of sites which are located in proximity to customer bases all over the world. The company operates plants in Europe, NAFTA and Asia.
