With its new N-methylpyrrolidone Life Science (NMP Life Science), BASF manufactures a NMP grade featuring a very low level of free amines in the range of 1 part per million (ppm), which is equivalent to 0.0001 percent. This new intermediate outperforms conventional NMP grades in this respect, which as a rule contain at least 10 times more amines.

BASF now also offers methanesulfonic acid for pharmaceutical applications in North America and Asia. This strong organic acid is highly suitable for manufacturing active pharmaceutical ingredients such as telmisartan and eprosartan, angiotensin II receptor antagonists.

BASF has developed N,N-diethylaniline borane (DEANB) with 5 mol% SpiroCAT, a new reagent for selective reduction. The formulation of DEANB with 5 mol% SpiroCAT is a mild and selective system for the reduction of ketones, esters and amides at ambient temperature in the presence of other functional groups, thereby enabling the late-stage reduction of complex APIs.
